About the Artist

13178043_10153597304044786_7256325378958715611_nMindy Esworthy (b.1992, United States) is currently working on an M.F.A. in painting from Savanna College of Art and Design received a B.A. in Art with a Minor in Photography from Eastern Mennonite University.  Her work has been exhibited at galleries in Harrisonburg, Virginia, although she hopes to branch outwards with her work.  Her most recent exhibition was part of a group show in July 2018, where artists were paired with pre-written poetry and challenged to creates works based on the writing.

Her painting work focuses primarily on abstracts, nature, and textures, placed onto the canvas using non-traditional sculpting methods and cake decorating bags.  These techniques allow the art to pop off of the canvas, whether it is in the form of overlapping lines or blooming flowers.  Her art is inspired by her grandparents, who taught her how to paint and to have an appreciation for nature and the earth.   She also enjoys working in ceramics, watercolors, and printmaking as well.

She is currently living and working in Harrisonburg, Virginia, letting the Blue Ridge Mountains and George Washington National Forests inspire her work.  Her current goals are to become more involved with galleries and to continue on with her education in the arts.

That text segment above is my artistic biography, also available on my About the Artist page, tells you some things about me but not others.   Its tell you what I’ve professionally done but not who I am as an artistic person, so I wanted to share that as well.

I love nature and flowers and driving through the woods.  Seeing the light and shadows dance through the trees inspires me.  Nothing is better than standing on the top of a mountain seeing for miles while smelling rain and wildflowers on the warm summers wind.   I love animals and have a cat; I dream of when I can get a dog as well.  I love messy arts, ceramics, dying paper for paper-making, color staining my hands is my natural environment.  I’ve been out of the country once, to South Korea, and it was one of the most amazing trips of my life.  I believe that everyone is creative in their own way and that everyone can make art.
